NWRA Scintillation Services

Researchers at Northwest Research Associates, Inc., have been actively investigating ionospheric scintillation effects on communication and navigation systems for over 30 years. NWRA's WBMOD and SCINTMOD state-of-the-art models of the global climatology of ionospheric scintillation and its potential effects on systems form the basis of a wide range of products and impact assessment studies NWRA can provide for its customers.

The following demonstrations are examples of the type of services NWRA can provide:

Daily predictions of scintillation levels at various places around the world based on the SCINTMOD model and data provided by the NOAA Space Environment Center. These maps are updated daily.

Dr. Andrew J. Mazzella, Jr., Research Scientist, researcher working with the USAF Research Laboratory to assess potential impacts of ionospheric scintillation on USAF systems, including GPS.
